Val de Bagnes en Fresques – a serie of workshops
How can tourism in the Alps evolve in the face of climate change? What role can we all play in shaping more sustainable destinations?
These were the core questions behind Val de Bagnes en Fresques, a series of three participatory workshops held in Verbier and Le Châble throughout March and April 2025. Powered by the SWEET Lantern project, participants discovers the Mountain Toursim Fresko – a serious game developed by the HES-SO Valais-Wallis. This initiative brought together citizens, tourism professionals, and local stakeholders to imagine a resilient and inclusive future for mountain tourism.

A serious game with serious impact
The Mountain Tourism Fresko is an interactive and collaborative game that helps participants understand both the direct and hidden impacts of tourism – from transport and construction to food and equipment. But more than that, it opens up a space for collective intelligence and ideation, inviting players to co-create local solutions for their own regions.
The workshops were held in both French and English, the sessions combined climate literacy with co-design methods like visioning, persona creation, and action mapping. Participants were encouraged to dream, debate, and decide together. We had three sessions:
March 13 at TéléVerbier, Médran
March 20 under the church in Verbier
April 10 at Raiffeisen, Le Châble
People from diverse backgrounds shared personal stories, reflected on local challenges, and collaborated on actionable ideas. From better mobility options for visitors, to promoting local food systems and reducing the footprint of accommodation, the ideas generated were as grounded as they were visionary. This serie of interventions is an example of how bottom-up engagement and gamified learning can spark meaningful conversations – and perhaps more importantly, new alliances for change.
