Low-Carbon Leisure & Tourism

01 | our goal

What is the
Low-carbon & leisure tourism project
about ?

Our goal is to decarbonize leisure and tourism activities by introducing the principle of sufficiency in both the demand and supply of recreational practices. This involves reconfiguring holiday and travel patterns towards closer-to-home destinations and lower-carbon travel options such as train and public transportation, while promoting energy-efficient and sustainable tourism infrastructure and services. Through participatory action research, we co-develop innovative tools and strategies that empower stakeholders to reduce the carbon footprint of tourism and foster long-term behavioural change.

03 | our Methods and interventions

We use a combination of co-design, gamification, and scientific experimentation to engage stakeholders and drive behavioural change:

Mountain Tourism Fresco – A serious game that helps stakeholders understand the systemic impact of tourism on climate and co-create local solutions.

Treeps Challenge – A smartphone app and Instagram account encouraging low-carbon travel choices through behavioural nudges and social norm feedback.
