Introducing Gridly
At SWEET Lantern, we believe that accelerating the energy transition requires more than just developing new technologies. It also means helping people & users to understand how energy systems work and empowering them to actively engage with new energy models.
That’s where Gridly comes in.
Gridly is a hands-on simulation tool designed to make the concept of local energy markets tangible and accessible. It allows users to explore innovative models such as peer-to-peer energy trading and energy flexibility, using a playful, scenario-based approach.

Gridly helps demystify complex energy dynamics. Itinvites users to experiment, make decisions, and see the consequences all within a simulated local energy ecosystem. Gridly helps foster energy literacy and citizen engagement. It encourages users to think critically about how energy is produced, consumed, shared and how their choices can support a more flexible and decentralized energy system.
Gridly was developed by HSLU – Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, as part of the SWEET Lantern project. Today, it is actively used as a living lab tool in collaboration with the Smart Region Lab in the Driving Urban Transitions Partnership PERSIST project.
This transition from research to real-world application is at the heart of SWEET Lantern’s mission: connecting science, innovation, and society to co-create energy solutions that are inclusive, engaging, and actionable.
