A recap on the SWEET SWICE & Lantern conference
On 10 June 2026, SWEET SWICE and Lantern gathered together in Fribourg under the shared theme “Building bridges for an energy transition that accounts for human needs.” For one day, researchers from across Switzerland met with industry partners, public authorities and practitioners to exchange ideas, strengthen collaborations and explore new pathways towards a people-centred energy transition
A day dedicated to collaboration
The conference offered a valuable opportunity to reconnect in person. Beyond the two consortia, the event welcomed representatives from SIL, SIG, Groupe E, BKW, the SIA, the CCDC, and the City of Fribourg, creating a rich dialogue between research and practice.
The opening keynote by Delphine Ding (Architectes pour le Climat) set the tone for the day. Her presentation highlighted the environmental challenges facing the construction sector while showcasing practical approaches centred on sustainable design, material reuse, repair and maintenance.

Conversations beyond the programme
After the traditional (and always entertaining) group photo, participants gathered for lunch, where informal discussions continued across disciplines and institutions. These spontaneous exchanges are often where new collaborations begin, making networking just as important as the formal programme itself.
Workshops and innovation showcase
The afternoon featured interactive workshops on 8-minute neighbourhoods, Living Labs, and neighbourhood-based energy cooperation, giving participants the opportunity to exchange ideas in smaller groups.
During the coffee break, a lively marketplace highlighted several tools and platforms developed within the two consortia. Demonstrations sparked curiosity and encouraged participants to explore how these tools could support future projects.
The day concluded with an aperitif under the afternoon sun, offering one last opportunity to continue discussions and celebrate a successful joint conference.
A heartfelt thank you to all speakers, participants and organisers who contributed to making this edition such a success. We are already looking forward to welcoming everyone again next year.
